About Video to Frames

A video is a quick sequence of still pictures. This tool lets you capture those pictures. Choose a video, then ask for a frame every few seconds, or an exact number of frames spread evenly across the whole video. You can also pause the video on a precise moment and add that single frame.

Frames are saved at the full size of the video as PNG for the sharpest result, or JPG or WebP for smaller files. Up to 100 frames can be taken at a time, each named with its place in the video, and you can download them one at a time or all together in a zip file. It is useful for picking a thumbnail, building a storyboard or checking a detail.

Frequently asked questions

Which video files work?

The ones your browser can play. MP4 and WebM are the most reliable. Some formats, such as certain MOV or MKV files, may not open.

How many frames can I take?

Up to 100 at once. For a longer video use a larger gap, or run it again over different parts.

Are the frames full size?

Yes. Each frame has the same width and height as the video.

Why is a frame slightly different from the time I chose?

Videos store pictures at set intervals, so a request lands on the nearest frame. At 30 frames a second that is within about a thirtieth of a second.

Which file type should I pick?

PNG for the best quality, JPG for smaller files when you take many frames.
