About Video Info Viewer

When you need to know what is in a video file, such as for an send rule, an editing job or a size comparison, this viewer lists it. Choose a video and the table shows the name, type and size, the length, the width and height in pixels with a common name such as HD or Full HD, and the shape as a ratio.

It also works out the average data rate by dividing the file size by the length, a fast way to compare how heavily different videos are compressed. The frame rate can be measured by letting the video play for a few seconds and timing the frames, giving a figure such as 24, 25, 30 or 60 frames a second where your browser supports it.

Frequently asked questions

What is the data rate?

The amount of data used each second of video, shown in kilobits a second. Here it covers the whole file, picture and sound together, so it is an average.

How is the frame rate measured?

The video plays silently for a few seconds and the time between frames is recorded. The middle of those gaps gives the frames a second.

Why is the frame rate unavailable?

Some browsers do not report frame timing. The rest of the table still works.

Why will my video not open?

Your browser can only read formats it can play. MP4 with common codecs and WebM are the safest.

What do HD and Full HD mean?

HD is 720 pixels high and Full HD is 1080 pixels high. 4K is 2160.
