About Tennis Score Tracker

Scoring tennis is easy to get wrong in your head: points go 15, 30, 40, then games, sets and the occasional tie-break. This tracker does it for you. Set the player names, choose the rules and tap the button for whoever wins each point. The scoreboard shows the points in the current game, the games in the current set and the sets already played, and it marks who is serving.

It follows the Rules of Tennis. A game is won with four points and a lead of two, with deuce and advantage at 40 all. A set is won with six games and a lead of two, or in a tie-break at six games all. A tie-break is first to seven points with a lead of two, with the serve changing after the first point and then every two. Tournaments differ in the deciding set, so you can pick a tie-break at 6 all, at 12 all, play on, or a ten point match tie-break.

Frequently asked questions

Why do tennis points go 15, 30, 40?

It is a historic scoring system. The numbers are just labels for the first three points won. After 40, a player needs to win the next point and be two points clear.

What happens at deuce?

When both players have won three points, the score is deuce. The next point gives one of them advantage. If they win the next point as well they win the game, and if they lose it the score is back to deuce.

How does a tie-break work?

At six games all, a tie-break is played. The first to 7 points wins, by two clear points. The server changes after the first point and then after every two points, and players change ends every six.

What is no-ad scoring?

At deuce, a single deciding point is played and whoever wins it wins the game. It is used in some doubles and club formats to shorten matches.

What is a match tie-break?

A first to 10 points, two clear, tie-break that replaces the deciding set in some competitions and in doubles.
