About Sprite Sheet Cutter

Game art and icon sets are often supplied as one large sheet of small pictures. To use them separately you need to cut the sheet into frames. Enter the width and height of one cell, or the number of columns and rows, and the tool marks every cell on a preview and cuts them out.

Real sheets often have a margin around the edge and spacing between the cells, so both can be set. Frames are named by row and column, for example sheet-r2c3, so the order is clear. You can download single frames or all of them in one zip file. PNG keeps see-through backgrounds, which sprites normally need.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know the cell size?

Divide the sheet width by the number of columns and the height by the number of rows, after taking off any margin and spacing. If unsure, use columns and rows and check the preview.

What are margin and spacing?

Margin is the empty border around the whole sheet. Spacing is the gap between neighbouring cells.

The boxes do not line up with the frames. What now?

Change the numbers by one pixel at a time and watch the preview. Often the spacing or margin is off by one or two pixels.

How many cells can it cut?

Up to 400 in one go. Use larger cells or a smaller sheet if you need more.

Will transparency be kept?

Yes, if you save as PNG or WebP. JPG fills see-through areas with a background colour.
