Signature Generator

Draw your signature on the pad or type your name and choose a style. Pick the ink colour, then save a PNG trimmed to the signature with a transparent background, ready to place on a document.

How

Draw with a mouse, finger or stylus in the box below.

A drawn or typed signature picture is accepted for many everyday documents, but wills, some deeds and some official forms have their own rules about how they must be signed. Check what is required.

Worked examples

Size of the saved picture

A signature that is 300 by 90 pixels of ink

A PNG of 332 by 122 pixels

Each side gets a 16 pixel margin, so the width and height grow by 32 pixels.

About Signature Generator

A picture of your signature is handy for letters, forms and documents you send as PDFs. This tool lets you draw one on a pad, with a mouse, a finger or a stylus, or type your name and choose a handwriting style. You pick the ink colour and the pen thickness, then save the result as a PNG.

The saved picture is trimmed to the ink with a small margin, so it drops neatly into a document. The background is see-through unless you ask for white, so it can sit over a signature line without hiding it. Typed signatures use the handwriting fonts that come with the phone or computer, so the same style can look different on a phone and a laptop. Draw large and slowly for the smoothest line, and use Clear to try again as many times as you like.

Frequently asked questions

Is a drawn signature legally valid?

In England and Wales an electronic signature, including a picture of your signature, can be valid for many documents. Wills and some deeds have their own rules, so check what the document needs.

Why is the background see-through?

A see-through background lets you place the signature over a line or a coloured page without a white box showing round it. Tick the white background option if the program you use does not support see-through pictures.

Why does my typed signature look different on another device?

Typed styles use fonts that are already on the device, and phones, Macs and Windows machines have different handwriting fonts. Save the PNG once and reuse it so it looks the same everywhere.

How do I put the signature on a PDF?

Use the Add an Image to PDF tool and place the PNG at the bottom of the last page, or the Sign a PDF tool if you want to draw directly on the file.

What size is the saved picture?

It is cropped to the ink with a margin of 16 pixels on every side, and drawn at twice the size you see on screen, so it stays sharp when you place it on a page.
