About Reverse Audio
Reversing a sound plays the last moment first and the first moment last. Sound designers use it to make swelling cymbals, eerie voices and rising effects, and musicians use it to build transitions. It is also a fun way to find out what your own voice sounds like backwards.
By default the whole file is reversed. To reverse only a section, tick the box and enter the start and end in seconds, and the rest of the sound stays in its place. Play the result before you download it, and save it as a WAV file at the same quality as the original.
How to use Reverse Audio
- Choose a sound file.

Frequently asked questions
Does reversing lose quality?
No. The samples are the same, just in the opposite order, and the file is saved as an uncompressed WAV.
Can I reverse just a few seconds?
Yes. Tick the part option and enter the start and end times in seconds.
What can I reverse?
Any sound file your browser can play, including MP3, M4A, OGG, FLAC and WAV, and the sound of many videos.
How do I make a rising cymbal?
Open a recording of a crash cymbal, reverse it and place the result so that it ends on the beat.
Why is the file bigger than my MP3?
WAV is uncompressed, so it uses more space than a compressed file of the same length.
Will reversed speech sound like words?
Not usually. Speech reversed sounds like an unknown language because the sounds are in the wrong order and the way each sound starts and fades is flipped. Some people record a phrase backwards and then reverse it to hear it forwards.
Can I reverse a stereo file?
Yes. Both channels are reversed together, so the stereo picture is kept. Anything panned to the left stays on the left.
