About Crop PDF
Cropping a PDF trims away the edges of its pages. It is useful when a scan has a dark band down one side, when a document has wide margins that waste paper, or when you want to cut a header or a footer off every page. Choose a PDF, enter the millimetres to take off each edge and press Crop PDF.
The tool changes the visible area of each page, so a page cropped by 10 millimetres on every side opens as a page 20 millimetres narrower and 20 millimetres shorter. The text and pictures are not redrawn or recompressed. Margins are entered as the page looks on screen, even if the page is stored turned, so top always means the top you can see. The cut-off parts are hidden, not erased, and a PDF editor can bring them back. You can crop all pages or only a list such as 1-3, 5.

Frequently asked questions
Does cropping delete the content I cut off?
No. The cut-off area is hidden but still in the file, and a PDF editor can restore it. If it must be gone for good, print the cropped file to a new PDF.
Will the page size change?
Yes. The page opens at its cropped size. A4 cropped by 10 millimetres on every side becomes 190 by 277 millimetres. The result shows the size of the first page.
What about pages that are turned?
Margins are applied as you see the page, so top is the visible top whatever turn is stored in the file. That is easier than working out which edge is which.
Can I crop different pages by different amounts?
Not in one go. Crop some pages with one set of margins using the page list, then run the result again for the others.
Will it make the file smaller?
Not usually. The content is kept as it is, so the file size stays about the same. To shrink it, use the Compress PDF tool afterwards.
