About BPM Tapper
Tapping along is the quickest way to find the speed of a song. Tap the button, or press the space bar, on every beat and the tempo appears from the second tap. It is worked out from the average gap between your latest eight taps, so the number settles as you go and corrects itself if you started unevenly.
The big figure shows the tempo to one decimal place, with a rounded figure and the traditional name for that speed underneath. The range line shows the slowest and fastest tempo across your taps, which tells you how steady you were. If you stop for more than two and a half seconds the count starts again.

Frequently asked questions
How many taps do I need?
Two give a first answer, but ten or more are much more reliable. The latest eight taps are used.
Why is my answer double or half what I expected?
Many songs can be felt at two speeds. Tap on the beat you would tap your foot to, and halve or double the figure if you need the other.
How is the tempo calculated?
It is 60,000 divided by the average gap in milliseconds between taps. A gap of 500 milliseconds is 120 beats a minute.
What if I miss a beat?
A long gap lowers the figure. Wait two and a half seconds for the count to reset, or press Start again.
Does the space bar work anywhere on the page?
Yes, as long as you are not typing in a box. The button also works with the Enter key.
