Worked examples

Five second click test

42 clicks in a 5 second test

8.4 clicks per second.

Clicks per second is the number of clicks divided by the length of the test, so 42 divided by 5 is 8.4.

Ten second click test

73 clicks in a 10 second test

7.3 clicks per second.

Clicks made after the time is up are not counted, so the score uses only the clicks inside the test.

About CPS Click Test

A CPS click test measures how many times you can click in a set period, and the result is given as clicks per second, usually shortened to CPS. This test lets you choose 5, 10 or 30 seconds. Shorter tests show how fast you can click in a burst, while longer tests show how well you keep up your speed over time. The timer starts with your first click, so you can take a moment to get ready before you begin.

To use the test, click the large box as fast as you can, or select the box and press the space bar if you prefer the keyboard. Each click made before the time runs out is counted, and clicks made after the end are ignored. When the test finishes, your total clicks, your clicks per second to two decimal places and a rating are shown. Results are not stored, so you can run the test as many times as you like to see how your speed changes.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as a good CPS?

Most people click somewhere between 4 and 7 times per second in a short test. Clicking above 8 or 9 per second is quite fast and takes practice. The rating on this page is a rough guide for fun and is not a measure of skill, so use it to compare your own results over time rather than against other people.

How is clicks per second worked out?

The total number of clicks is divided by the length of the test in seconds. For example, 50 clicks in a 10 second test gives 5.00 clicks per second. Clicks made after the time has finished are not counted, so the figure reflects only the clicks you made during the test.

Does the test need a mouse?

No. You can use a mouse, a trackpad or a touch screen by clicking or tapping the box. You can also select the box and press the space bar, which is handy if you prefer to use the keyboard. Each of these methods counts in the same way, so you can try them all and compare.

Why do my scores change from one test to the next?

Clicking speed changes with tiredness, warm up, and how relaxed your hand and wrist feel. Short tests can be affected by the first few clicks, while longer tests show more steady results. Rest between tests and repeat each length a few times to see your typical score rather than one unusual result.

Can I use this for a competition?

This test is fine for fun and friendly challenges between friends. It is not designed as an official measure, because results depend on the mouse, the screen and how the page is running at the time. For a formal contest, check the rules of the event and use the equipment and method they ask for.
