About Stableford Points Calculator

Stableford is a golf scoring format that rewards good holes and limits the damage from bad ones. Instead of adding up strokes, you score points on each hole against a target of net par, which is par after the shots you receive. A net par earns 2 points, a net birdie 3, a net eagle 4 and a net bogey 1. A net double bogey or worse scores nothing, so you can pick up and move on.

This calculator takes your Playing Handicap, the par and stroke index of every hole and your score on each, and shows the strokes you receive, the points and the totals out, in and overall. A score of 36 points matches your handicap exactly. Strokes are given on the holes with the lowest stroke index first, and a plus handicap gives shots back on the easiest holes.

Frequently asked questions

How many points is a bogey worth in Stableford?

One point for a net bogey. A net par is 2 points, a net birdie 3, a net eagle 4 and a net albatross 5. A net double bogey or worse is no points.

How are the shots given out across the holes?

In order of stroke index, from 1, the hardest hole, upwards. With a Playing Handicap of 20, every hole gets one shot and stroke index 1 and 2 get a second.

What does 36 points mean?

It is a score equal to your handicap over 18 holes, since a net par on every hole is 2 points a hole. More than 36 beats your handicap.

What if I did not finish a hole?

Leave the score blank. Picking up scores no points on that hole.

Which handicap should I enter?

The Playing Handicap for the competition, which is your Course Handicap with the allowance for the format applied, not your Handicap Index. The golf handicap calculator works it out.
