About Remove Repeated Words
Doubled words are among the most common slips in writing. "The the" or "is is" escapes the eye because the brain reads past it. This tool finds words repeated side by side and removes the second one, leaving the rest of your text and its punctuation as typed. It can also remove every repeat of a word anywhere in the text, and strip the common small words that add nothing to a keyword list.
Choose the job from the menu. Side by side mode is the proofreading one. Every repeat mode keeps the first use of each word and removes the rest, which suits tidying a list of tags written as a sentence. Common small words mode removes words such as the, and, of, to and it, and contractions such as don't, and you can add your own words to remove. Words are matched whole, with apostrophes and hyphens inside a word kept together.
How to use Remove Repeated Words

- Choose whether to remove words repeated side by side, every repeat, or common small words.

Frequently asked questions
What counts as a word?
A run of letters and numbers in any alphabet, with apostrophes and hyphens inside it, so don't and well-known are single words.
What happens to punctuation next to a removed word?
It stays. For example, removing the second "cat" from "cat, cat." leaves "cat,." so read the result once before you use it.
Is "The" the same as "the"?
By default yes. Untick the option to treat words that differ in capitals as different words.
Which words does the small words option remove?
Common English words such as articles, pronouns, prepositions, auxiliary verbs and conjunctions, and common contractions. You can add more in the extra words box.
