About Poker Hand Odds Calculator

Poker is a game of incomplete information, but some things can be counted exactly. This calculator ranks your best hand from your two cards and the board, and shows your chance of winning against one or more opponents who hold random cards. With four or five community cards and one opponent, it counts every possible opponent hand and every remaining card, so the answer is exact. In other cases it deals 20,000 random games, which gives a figure usually within about 0.7 percentage points.

It also shows how likely you are to finish with each type of hand by the river. From the flop or turn this is counted exactly, and before the flop it is estimated. For example, with four spades after the flop there is a 34.97% chance of completing a flush or better by the river. Opponents here are assumed to play to the end with random cards, so the results show raw hand strength and are not advice on how to play.

Frequently asked questions

How do I write cards?

A rank, then a suit. Ranks are 2 to 9, T or 10, J, Q, K and A. Suits are s for spades, h for hearts, d for diamonds and c for clubs. Ah Td is the ace of hearts and ten of diamonds.

What is the chance of making a flush from four to a flush on the flop?

With four cards of one suit and 9 left in the other 47 unseen cards, the chance of at least one arriving in the next two cards is 1 minus 38 over 47 times 37 over 46, which is 34.97%.

How strong are two aces?

Against one random hand, a pair of aces wins about 85% of the time before the flop. Against three random hands that falls to around 64%.

What does share of the pot mean?

Your win chance plus half your chance of a split with one opponent. It is the fraction of the pot you would expect on average if everyone played to the end.

Why does the answer change each time?

Before the flop, and with several opponents, the page estimates by dealing 20,000 random games. Different random deals give slightly different figures. With one opponent and four or five board cards it is exact and does not change.
