20 divided by 4 is 5. At 6 per sheet it would take 4 sheets, because 20 divided by 6 is 3.33 and is rounded up.
About Multiple Pages per Sheet
Putting several pages on one sheet saves paper and makes handouts that are quick to flick through. This tool takes a PDF and makes a new one in which each sheet carries 2, 4, 6, 8 or 9 of the original pages in a neat grid, ready to print. It is sometimes called n-up printing.
Pages are placed in reading order, left to right and then down. Two pages go side by side on a landscape sheet, four go in a two by two grid, six in three columns and two rows, eight in four columns and two rows, and nine in a three by three grid. Each page is scaled to fit its cell without being stretched. You can set the margin and the gap between pages, and draw a thin border round each page, which helps when the pages have a white background. A 20 page file at four per sheet gives five sheets. The new sheets are drawn from the old pages, so links and form fields are not carried across.

Frequently asked questions
How many pages can go on one sheet?
You can choose 2, 4, 6, 8 or 9. Beyond that the pages become too small to read comfortably on A4.
What order are the pages in?
Left to right, then down, like reading a page. Page 1 is top left, page 2 is next to it, and so on to the bottom right.
Which paper direction is used?
Two, six and eight pages use a landscape sheet by default, and four and nine use portrait. You can force portrait or landscape instead.
Does it work for pages of different sizes?
Yes. Each page is scaled to fit its cell, so mixed sizes work, though the smaller pages end up looking smaller on the sheet.
Can I print it double sided?
Yes. Print the new file double sided as normal. The pages on the back of each sheet are the next group of the original pages.
