About Fill in a PDF Form
Many forms are sent as fillable PDFs, with boxes you can type in. This tool reads the boxes in the file, lists them by name with their current values, and lets you fill them in. Choose a PDF, type your answers, tick the boxes and choose from the lists, then download the filled form.
Tick Flatten and the answers are turned into fixed text on the page. That is how you make a filled form a record that cannot be changed by accident, and it also lets you flatten a form without filling in anything: tick Flatten and press the button. Fields that are locked are shown but cannot be changed, and buttons and signature boxes are left alone. If you type letters that the form cannot show, such as characters outside the usual Western alphabet, the tool tells you which field was affected. A PDF with no form fields, such as a scan, has nothing to fill in.

Frequently asked questions
What kinds of field can I fill in?
Text boxes, tick boxes, drop-down lists, option lists and groups of round option buttons. Buttons and signature fields cannot be filled here.
What does flattening do?
It turns the form fields into ordinary page content, so the answers can no longer be edited and the boxes disappear. Keep an unflattened copy if you may need to change something.
Why is my form not showing any fields?
The file may not be a fillable form. Many PDFs only look like forms, because the boxes are printed on the page rather than built in. A scan has no fields at all.
Why was a field rejected?
The built in typeface cannot show every character. If you typed letters from another alphabet, the field is skipped and listed so you can change what you typed.
Does it work on a locked form?
Fields marked read-only are shown but not changed. If the whole file needs a password to open, use the Unlock PDF tool first.
