About Commission Calculator
Commission is pay linked to what you sell. The simplest scheme is a flat percentage of your sales: 5% of £40,000 is £2,000. Many employers reward higher sales with a higher rate, though, so the percentage rises in bands. In a banded scheme each rate applies only to the sales inside its band, not to the whole total.
Choose a flat rate or enter your bands, one per line, with the sales each band runs up to and its rate. The page shows the commission earned in each band, the total, and your average rate across all sales. Add a base pay for the period and you also see your total earnings, which helps when comparing a role with a high base pay against one that leans on commission.

Frequently asked questions
How do you calculate commission?
Multiply the sales by the commission rate. With bands, work out the part of the sales in each band and multiply that part by the band's rate, then add the results.
How do I write the bands?
Put the sales a band runs up to, a comma and the rate on each line, such as 10000, 3. Write "over" instead of an amount for the last band.
Does a higher rate apply to all my sales?
Not in this calculator. Each rate applies only to the sales inside its band. Some schemes do apply the top rate to everything once a target is hit, so check the rules of yours.
Is commission taxed?
Yes. It comes with your wages and taxed as normal pay, so tax and National Insurance are taken. The bonus tax calculator shows the effect.
Are sales counted with or without VAT?
It depends on your scheme. Most count sales without VAT. Ask your employer which figure is used.
