About Business Model Canvas Maker

The business model canvas describes how a business creates, delivers and earns from value, on a single page. It has nine blocks. On the right are your customer segments, the relationships you build with them and the channels you reach them through. In the middle is your value proposition: the problem you solve and why customers choose you. On the left are the key partners, activities and resources you rely on, and along the bottom are your cost structure and revenue streams. Looking at the nine together shows whether the parts of the business fit.

Each box on this page has a short prompt to get you started. Write one point per line and the maker reproduces the canvas in its familiar layout on landscape A4, shrinking the text to fit each block. It suits a new idea, a review of an existing business, or a conversation with a lender or adviser. Start with customer segments and the value proposition, then work outwards to channels, costs and revenue.

Frequently asked questions

What are the nine blocks?

Customer segments, value propositions, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partners and cost structure.

Where should I start?

With customers and the value you offer them. Everything else on the canvas exists to deliver that value and to make money from it.

Is the canvas a replacement for a business plan?

No. It is a one page summary that helps you think. A bank or investor will still want figures such as a cash flow forecast.

Can I have several customer segments?

Yes, but list them as separate points. If they need different value propositions or channels, make a separate canvas for each.

What if a box is too full?

The text shrinks to fit, then is cut if it still does not fit. You are told how many boxes were cut, so use fewer or shorter points.
