UUID Validator について

This validator checks UUIDs, the 128-bit identifiers used for records, files and sessions. Paste values one per line in the usual hyphenated form, with curly braces, with the urn:uuid: prefix or with no hyphens at all, in capitals or lower case, and each is checked and described. The message at the end counts how many of the values are UUIDs.

A valid UUID is shown in lower case with hyphens, followed by its version and variant. The version names how it was made, such as 4 for random, 7 for Unix time-based, 3 and 5 for name-based. Version 1 and version 7 UUIDs contain a time, so the tool shows when they were made, in UTC. The nil UUID, all zeros, and the max UUID, all Fs, are named as such.

Be clear about what valid means here. The test is that there are exactly 32 hexadecimal digits once the extras are stripped. The version digit is reported rather than rejected, so a value with an unusual version still passes and is shown with that number. A value that fails is listed with the reason, which makes it easy to spot a truncated or mistyped identifier in a long list.

UUID Validator の使い方

  1. Paste your UUIDs, one per line.
  2. Read the result for each one: valid or not, the version, the variant and any time.
  3. Check the count in the message to see whether every value passed.
  4. Copy the tidy list, or fix the ones that are marked.

主な使いみち

  • Checking the identifiers in an import file before loading it
  • Finding out which version of UUID a system produces
  • Reading the creation time from a version 7 or version 1 UUID
  • Normalising UUIDs to one lower case, hyphenated format
  • Spotting a truncated identifier or a pasted character in a long list
  • Telling a nil UUID, which often means a missing value, from a real one

よくあるご質問

What makes a UUID valid?

It has 32 hexadecimal digits, normally written in groups of 8, 4, 4, 4 and 12 separated by hyphens. This tool also accepts curly braces, a urn:uuid: prefix and values with no hyphens.

What do the version and variant mean?

The version says how the UUID was made, for example 4 for random. The variant says which layout rules it follows. Most UUIDs use the standard variant, shown as RFC 4122 or RFC 9562.

Why do some results show a date?

Version 1 and version 7 UUIDs include a timestamp. The tool reads it and shows the time in UTC.

Are the version digits checked against a list?

The version is reported as found. Versions 1 to 8 are named; any other digit is shown as a number only, and the value still counts as well formed.

Do I need to create a UUID?

Use the UUID generator to make new ones.
