Cooking Measurement Converter について
Recipes often mix measures from different countries, and a cup in an American cookbook is not quite the same as a cup in a British one. This cooking measurement converter lets you switch between US cups, UK metric cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, fluid ounces, millilitres and litres in a couple of taps. Type in the amount, choose the unit it is written in, and every other measure appears in a table so you can compare them at a glance. It is useful when a recipe lists a measure that your jug or spoons do not show, or when you are following a recipe from another country and want to check the quantities before you start.
The ingredient mode is for dry and thick foods, where a cup measures space rather than weight. Plain flour, granulated sugar, butter, honey, whole milk, long grain rice and rolled oats each weigh a different amount for the same volume, so a cup of one is not a cup of another. Choose the ingredient and the cup size, then convert cups to grams or grams back to cups. A table of common fractions shows what a quarter cup, a third, a half and a full cup weigh, and a density table lists typical values for every ingredient on the page.

よくあるご質問
How many millilitres are in a US cup?
A US cup is 236.6 millilitres, which is the customary US measure used in most American recipes. A UK metric cup, as used in many modern British recipes, is 250 millilitres, so it is about six percent bigger. The difference matters most in baking, where small changes to the amount of liquid can alter the texture of a cake or a loaf. Use the converter to see both measures side by side for any amount you need.
Are US and UK tablespoons the same size?
They are very close but not identical. A US tablespoon is about 14.8 millilitres, while the UK metric tablespoon is 15 millilitres. Teaspoons differ in the same way, with a US teaspoon of about 4.9 millilitres and a UK metric teaspoon of exactly 5 millilitres. Fluid ounces show the biggest gap, because an imperial fluid ounce is 28.4 millilitres and a US fluid ounce is 29.6 millilitres.
Why do flour weights vary so much between recipes?
A cup is a measure of space, not weight, so the same cup can hold different amounts of flour. Flour scooped straight from the bag packs down and can weigh noticeably more than flour that has been spooned in and levelled off. That is why the grams in this converter are typical values, and why weighing is the most reliable method for baking when you have scales.
Can I use this for liquids and dry ingredients?
Yes, but the two behave differently. Volume conversions for liquids such as water, milk and oil are exact, because a millilitre of liquid is always a millilitre. Dry ingredients are different, since the grams per cup depend on how the food is packed. The ingredient mode gives typical weights for common dry foods, along with milk and honey, which is a good starting point rather than an exact weight.
Is a cup of rice the same weight as a cup of oats?
No. Long grain white rice, uncooked, weighs about 185 grams per US cup, while rolled oats weigh about 90 grams for the same volume because oats are light and flaky. Cooked rice weighs much more because it has absorbed water. Always check whether a recipe means dry or cooked when it gives a cup measure, since that changes the answer a great deal.
