計算例

Calories for a moderately active man

Male, 30 years old, 80 kg, 180 cm, moderate activity

Basal metabolic rate 1,780 calories a day, and about 2,759 calories a day with moderate activity.

The Mifflin-St Jeor equation gives the resting figure, which is then multiplied by the activity factor of 1.55.

Daily calories for a sedentary woman

Female, 55 years old, 65 kg, 165 cm, sedentary

Basal metabolic rate 1,245 calories a day, and about 1,494 calories a day when sedentary.

The female version of the equation subtracts 161 instead of adding 5, and the sedentary factor is 1.2.

Calorie Calculator について

Your body uses energy every day, even when you are resting. Basal metabolic rate, or BMR, is the amount of energy used to keep your heart beating, your lungs working and your body temperature steady. Your total daily energy use is higher, because it includes movement, exercise and the energy needed to digest food. This calculator estimates BMR using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, which uses your sex, age, height and weight, and then multiplies it by an activity factor to estimate the calories you use in a typical day.

The results are a general estimate and not medical advice. Two people of the same age, height and weight can use different amounts of energy because of differences in muscle, health, hormones and medicines, none of which this calculator measures. The formula is also designed for adults, so it is not suitable for children or teenagers. Use the figures as a starting point for planning, and speak to a doctor, nurse or dietitian before making significant changes to your diet, weight or exercise, particularly if you have a medical condition.

よくあるご質問

What is basal metabolic rate?

Basal metabolic rate is the number of calories your body uses at complete rest over 24 hours, just to keep vital functions going. It makes up the largest share of most people's daily energy use. The calculator estimates it from your sex, age, height and weight. Activity, digestion and other factors add to it, which is why the daily estimate is higher than the BMR.

What is the Mifflin-St Jeor equation?

It is a formula that estimates resting energy use from your weight in kilograms, height in centimetres, age in years and sex. For men, 5 is added to the result, and for women, 161 is subtracted. It is widely used in nutrition and health settings because it gives a reasonable estimate for most adults, although it cannot be exact for every individual.

Why does the calculator ask for my sex?

The Mifflin-St Jeor equation uses a different constant for men and women, because average body composition and energy use differ between the sexes. The calculator applies the constant that matches your selection. The formula only covers these two groups, so the result is a general estimate for most adults and not a precise figure for every person.

How do I choose my activity level?

Pick the level that describes a normal week rather than your most or least active one. Sedentary means little or no exercise, light means exercise one to three days a week, moderate means three to five days, very active means hard exercise six to seven days a week, and extra active covers very hard training or a physically demanding job. If you are unsure, choose the lower level and adjust after a few weeks.

Is this calorie estimate medical advice?

No. It is a general estimate that gives a starting point for planning. It does not take account of your health, medicines, body composition or any medical condition, and it is not designed for children. Doctors, dietitians and nurses can assess your needs properly. Speak to one of them before making significant changes to your diet, exercise or weight.
