A time calculator adds and subtracts lengths of time. Type a list of durations, such as 1:30:00 + 2:15:30 - 0:20:00, and the total appears as hours, minutes and seconds. It saves you working in sixties by hand, which is where mistakes creep in. It is handy for adding up the length of tracks on a playlist, the legs of a journey, the stages of a recipe, the parts of a video, or the hours worked on several jobs in a week.
You can write each time in whichever way is natural. Use 1:30:00 for hours, minutes and seconds, 2:15 for hours and minutes, or 1h 20m 30s with letters. Put a plus or minus sign in front, or put each time on its own line to add them. The result is shown as hours:minutes:seconds, in plain words, as decimal hours for timesheets and invoices, and as total minutes and seconds. Totals can go beyond 24 hours, and a negative total is shown with a minus sign.

How do I add hours and minutes together?
Add the minutes and carry any complete sixty into the hours. For 2 hours 45 minutes plus 1 hour 50 minutes, the minutes make 95, which is 1 hour 35 minutes, so the total is 4 hours 35 minutes. This calculator does the carrying for you.
How do I subtract times?
Put a minus sign in front of the time you want to take away, for example 3:00:00 - 0:45:00. The result is 2 hours 15 minutes. If the total goes below zero it is shown with a minus sign.
How do I turn hours and minutes into decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. For 3 hours 25 minutes and 30 seconds the decimal hours figure is 3.425. The calculator shows this for you, which is the figure most timesheet and invoicing systems ask for.
Can the total be more than 24 hours?
Yes. The total is shown as the full number of hours, such as 40:00:00 for a working week, and also split into days and hours in words.
What does a plain number mean?
A number with no colon and no letters is read as minutes, so 90 means 90 minutes, which is 1 hour 30 minutes.
