Sobre Text to Speech
Text to speech reads written words aloud in a synthetic voice, which can be helpful for checking your own writing, listening to long articles or following along with a page while your eyes rest. This tool lets you type or paste your text, choose one of the voices available on your computer or phone, and press play. You can adjust the speed, pitch and volume to suit what you are listening for. Shorter passages read most smoothly, so split very long documents into sections if you need to.
The voices depend on the computer or phone you are using, and each one has its own accent, language and character. Some devices offer many voices, while others offer only a few or none at all. If no voices are available, the page shows a clear message explaining what to check. Pause keeps your place in the text so you can carry on from the same point, and stop ends the reading straight away. Changes to speed, pitch and volume apply the next time you press play.

Preguntas frecuentes
Why can I not hear any voices?
Speech depends on voices installed on your computer or phone. If none are found, check the speech settings in your system, make sure sound is turned on, and then reload the page. Some devices load voices a moment after the page opens, so the message may take a second or two to clear.
What do speed, pitch and volume change?
Speed controls how quickly the words are spoken, with 1.0 as normal speaking speed. Pitch changes how high or low the voice sounds, with 1.0 as the natural pitch of the voice. Volume sets how loud the reading is, from silent to the full level your device allows. The settings apply the next time you press Play, so change them before you start.
Is there a limit to how much text I can use?
Yes. You can read up to 5000 characters at a time, which is roughly a few pages of text. This limit keeps the reading reliable, because very long passages can stop part way through on some devices. For longer documents, paste one section at a time and read each part in turn.
What is the difference between pause and stop?
Pause holds the reading at the point you reached, and Resume carries on from the same word. Stop ends the reading completely, so pressing Play again starts from the beginning of the text. Use pause when you want a short break and stop when you have finished listening.
Why does the voice sound different on another computer?
Each computer or phone has its own set of voices, and the same name can sound slightly different from one system to another. Language settings also affect the choice of voice, so a British English voice may be listed in one place but not another. Pick the voice you like on each device, and adjust the speed to suit it.
