Sobre Self-Employment Tax Calculator
This self-employment tax calculator estimates the Social Security and Medicare tax you owe on your business income in 2026. Enter your net profit and, if you also have a job, your wages. It applies the 92.35% factor, the Social Security rate up to the wage base, the Medicare rate and the additional Medicare tax, and shows the half of the tax you can deduct.
Employees pay half of these taxes and their employer pays the other half. Self-employed people pay both halves, which is why the rate is 15.3% on net earnings. Net earnings are 92.35% of net profit, which removes the part that stands in for the employer half. Social Security tax of 12.4% applies up to $184,500 in 2026, Medicare tax of 2.9% applies to everything, and an extra 0.9% applies above $200,000 for single filers or $250,000 for joint filers. If you have wages, they use up part of the Social Security wage base first. The tax applies once net earnings reach $400.

Preguntas frecuentes
What is the self-employment tax rate?
It is 15.3% of 92.35% of your net profit, made up of 12.4% for Social Security and 2.9% for Medicare. The Social Security part stops at the 2026 wage base of $184,500.
Why is the 92.35% factor used?
It reduces net profit by the 7.65% that an employer would pay as its half of the tax. The result is called net earnings from self-employment.
Can I deduct self-employment tax?
You can deduct half of the self-employment tax when you work out your adjusted gross income. The additional Medicare tax is not part of that deduction.
Does this include income tax on my profit?
No. Self-employment tax is separate from income tax. Use the US income tax calculator for income tax, entering your profit less half of the self-employment tax as an adjustment.
