Sobre 401(k) Calculator

This 401(k) calculator projects how your balance could grow between now and retirement. Enter your age, the age you plan to retire, your salary, your current balance, how much of your pay you contribute and what your employer matches. It adds your contributions every month, applies a yearly return and shows the balance for each year.

The 2026 limit on your own contributions is $24,500. From age 50 you can add a catch-up of $8,000, and at ages 60 to 63 the catch-up is $11,250 instead. The calculator caps your contribution at those limits each year and tells you when the cap applies. The employer match is entered as a share of what you contribute, up to a share of your salary, which is how most plans describe it.

Preguntas frecuentes

What is the 401(k) contribution limit for 2026?

You can contribute up to $24,500 of your own pay in 2026. The catch-up for age 50 and over is $8,000, and for ages 60 to 63 it is $11,250.

How does an employer match work?

A common match is 50% of what you contribute, up to 6% of your salary. If you contribute at least 6%, the employer adds 3% of your salary. Your plan documents give the exact formula.

What return should I use?

Nobody can promise a return. A long-run figure of 5% to 7% a year is often used for a mix of stocks and bonds, but real returns vary a lot from year to year. Try a few values.

Does this include the overall plan limit?

No. There is also a higher limit on total contributions from you and your employer together, which most people never reach, and it is not modelled here.
