About Smoking Cost Calculator

It is easy to lose track of what smoking costs, because it is spent a few pounds at a time. This calculator adds it up. Enter how many cigarettes you smoke in a day, how many are in a pack and the price you pay, and the page shows the cost for a day, a week, a month and a year, and what that comes to over 5, 10 and 20 years.

The totals use today’s price for every year, so what you really spend over a long time is likely to be higher as prices rise. If you enter how many years you have smoked, the page also shows roughly what you have spent so far. If you are thinking about cutting down or stopping, your GP, pharmacist or local stop smoking service can help. This is an estimate and not medical advice.

Frequently asked questions

How much does 10 cigarettes a day cost?

At £15.50 for a pack of 20, ten cigarettes a day cost £7.75 a day, about £54 a week and about £2,829 a year. Use the price you actually pay to see your own figure.

How do I include rolling tobacco?

Work out how many cigarettes you get from a pouch, then use that as the pack size and the pouch price as the pack price. The sum is then the same.

Why is the long-term total only an estimate?

The page multiplies today’s price by the years, but prices change. It also does not count lighters, papers or other costs, so the real figure is probably higher.

Where can I get help to stop?

Your GP, pharmacist and local stop smoking service can offer support and treatments that make stopping easier. The NHS also has information and a stop smoking plan online.

Does this say anything about my health?

No. It only counts money. It is an estimate and not medical advice. Speak to your GP about your health.
