List Randomiser
Paste your lines to put them in a new random order, or draw a winner, a few names or a sample without repeats. Press the button again for a fresh result.
About List Randomiser
A fair random order is surprisingly hard to produce by hand. People avoid putting similar items next to each other and favour the first and last places. This list randomiser shuffles your lines properly, so every possible order is equally likely, and it can also draw one or more lines from the list for a raffle, a team captain or a sample.
Paste your lines, choose to shuffle the whole list or pick some lines, and press the button again for a new result whenever you like. When picking, you can stop the same line being chosen twice, which is what you want for a prize draw, or allow repeats, as in rolling a die. The random numbers come from a proper random source rather than a pattern, and the lines themselves are never altered.

Frequently asked questions
Is every order equally likely?
Yes. The shuffle uses the Fisher-Yates method with unbiased random numbers, so no order is more likely than another.
Can the same line be picked twice?
Not unless you untick the option. With it ticked, each line can be chosen only once, and asking for more lines than exist simply returns them all.
Are empty lines dropped?
When picking, empty lines are never chosen. When shuffling, they are dropped by default, and you can untick the option to shuffle them with the rest.
Does pressing the button again change the list?
No. Your list stays as it is and only the result changes, so you can draw again or shuffle again as often as you like.
