About Hexadecimal to Decimal Converter

This converter turns hexadecimal numbers into decimal and shows how. To convert hexadecimal to decimal, multiply each hexadecimal digit by its place value, which is a power of 16, and add the results. For example, A in hexadecimal is 10 in decimal, and 7EA is 2026.

Hexadecimal packs four bits into each digit, which is why programmers use it for colours, memory addresses and raw data: it is far shorter than binary and converts to it directly. Decimal is the base 10 system we count in every day, with place values of ones, tens, hundreds and so on. Numbers of any length are converted exactly, because the tool works with whole numbers digit by digit instead of rounding.

How to use Hexadecimal to Decimal Converter

  1. Type or paste a hexadecimal number into the first box. Spaces, underscores and prefixes such as 0x are ignored.

  3. Look at the working table to see each step of the method.
  4. Copy the result, or use the swap button to convert decimal back to hexadecimal.

Frequently asked questions
