Graph Paper Generator
Choose squares, dots or lines, the paper size, the spacing in millimetres and the margin. Print it straight from the page or download a PDF that prints at the exact size.
Worked examples
5 mm squares on A4
A4 portrait, 5 mm spacing, 10 mm margin
38 squares across and 55 down
The width inside the margins is 190 mm and the height is 277 mm, giving 38 and 55 whole squares.
About Graph Paper Generator
Graph paper, dot grid and lined paper are cheap, but not always at the spacing or size you want. This tool makes any of them for you, to the exact spacing in millimetres, on A4, A3, A5 or US Letter, in portrait or landscape. Choose your settings, check the preview and print, or download a PDF.
Lines are placed from the margin at exactly the spacing you give, and only whole squares that fit inside the margins are drawn. A 5 millimetre grid on A4 with a 10 millimetre margin gives 38 by 55 squares. The PDF is drawn at the true paper size, so it prints at 100 percent. When printing, choose actual size and turn off fit to page in the print window, otherwise the browser may shrink the page and the spacing will no longer be exact. You can choose grey, blue, green or black lines and the line weight.
How to use Graph Paper Generator

Frequently asked questions
Will it print at the right size?
Yes, if your printer settings use actual size or 100 percent. The Download PDF button gives a file at the true paper size. If the lines look slightly off, check that fit to page is not switched on.
What spacing should I choose?
5 millimetres is standard graph paper, 2 millimetres suits fine technical drawing and 7 to 10 millimetres suits young children. Dot grids at 5 millimetres are popular for journals.
Why are some squares missing at the edge?
Only whole squares inside the margin are drawn. If the space left over is smaller than one square, it is left blank rather than drawing a part square.
Can I print with no margin?
You can set the margin to zero, but most printers cannot print right to the edge, so some of the lines near the edge may be cut off.
Can I print on both sides?
Yes. Print the page twice, or use your printer's double sided setting. The lines are the same on both sides, so they line up if the sheets are fed in squarely.
