Frequently asked questions
What is ASCII?
A character set that gives 128 characters a number from 0 to 127. It covers English letters, digits, punctuation and control codes, and it is the base of UTF-8.
What are control characters?
Codes 0 to 31 and 127 that do not print. They control things like line breaks (10), tabs (9) and the escape key (27).
Why is the code for a capital A 65?
Capital letters run from 65 to 90 and lower case from 97 to 122. Lower case is always 32 higher, so changing one bit switches the case.
Is there an extended ASCII table?
This table covers standard 7-bit ASCII only. For other characters use the Unicode character finder.
