Worked examples

A Yankee at £1 a bet

Odds 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0

11 bets, £11 staked, £345 returned if all win

Adding the four singles makes a Lucky 15: 15 bets, £15 staked, £359 returned.

A Trixie with one loser

Odds 2.0 (win), 3.0 (lose), 4.0 (win), £1 a bet

4 bets, £4 staked, £8 returned

Only the double on the two winners pays, at 2.0 x 4.0.

About Accumulator and Full Cover Bet Calculator

An accumulator multiplies the odds of every selection together, so a small stake can return a lot, but one losing selection loses the whole bet. A full cover bet is a safer looking alternative on paper: it places many smaller bets covering every double, treble and bigger combination of your selections, so a loser or two does not wipe you out. This calculator works out both for up to eight selections.

The names are traditional. Three selections make a Trixie, four a Yankee, five a Canadian, six a Heinz, seven a Super Heinz and eight a Goliath. Add a single on each selection and they become a Patent, a Lucky 15, a Lucky 31 and so on. This page explains the maths and does not encourage betting, and bonuses a bookmaker adds to Lucky bets are not included.

Frequently asked questions

How many bets are in a Yankee?

Eleven: six doubles, four trebles and one four-fold on four selections. A Lucky 15 adds the four singles, so it has fifteen bets.

What is the difference between a Trixie and a Patent?

A Trixie has four bets on three selections: three doubles and a treble. A Patent adds the three singles, making seven bets.

How is a void selection treated?

As if its odds were 1, so it neither adds to nor reduces the return of the bets it is in. A treble with one void selection becomes a double.

What does a Yankee on 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 return?

At £1 a bet, the six doubles return £71, the four trebles £154 and the four-fold £120, a total of £345 on a total stake of £11.

Does the stake apply to each bet?

Yes. A £1 Yankee is eleven bets of £1, so £11 in total. The page shows the total stake as well as the per bet figure.
