    Over Invisible Character

An invisible character takes up a place in text but shows nothing on screen. This page lets you copy the common ones: the zero width space, zero width joiner and non-joiner, word joiner, braille blank, Hangul filler, soft hyphen and several wide and narrow spaces. Set how many you need, then copy.

The tester below the list works the other way round. Paste any text and each hidden character is marked with a small label, with a count, its Unicode code and the position of the first one. You can then copy the text again with the hidden characters removed.

    Veelgestelde vragen

Which invisible character should I try first?

The braille blank and the Hangul filler look like empty gaps and are not treated as a normal space by many sites. The zero width space has no width at all and suits breaking up text without any visible gap.

Why does my text behave strangely after pasting?

Text copied from web pages and documents sometimes carries zero width characters. They can split a word, break a link or stop a search from matching. Paste it into the tester to see them.

What does the clean copy remove?

It removes zero width characters, fillers, soft hyphens and similar marks. Unusual spaces, such as the no-break space, are changed to a normal space. Ordinary spaces and line breaks are kept.

Will the character survive when I post it?

Some sites remove or replace invisible characters when you save. Check the result after posting, and try another character from the list if it is stripped.
