Cropping a fixed area

A 1200 by 800 pixel photo cropped from x 100, y 50 with a width of 600 and height of 400

A 600 by 400 pixel image taken from the original, starting 100 pixels from the left and 50 pixels from the top.

The number boxes show exact pixel positions, so the crop can be repeated with the same values.

Tight crop on a logo

A 500 by 500 pixel logo cropped to x 50, y 50, width 400 and height 400

A 400 by 400 pixel image with 50 pixels of space removed from each edge.

Removing a fixed margin from each side keeps the logo centred and leaves an even border.

Informazioni su Image Cropper

Cropping removes the parts of a picture you do not need so the subject fills the frame. Drag the box over the area you want, pull a corner to resize it, or type exact numbers for the position and size. You can lock the shape to 1:1, 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or a portrait ratio, which is useful when a site or platform needs a particular proportion. This makes it quick to cut a picture down to a thumbnail, a banner or a square without opening a full photo editor.

A round crop option makes avatars quickly: everything outside the circle becomes transparent when you save as PNG or WebP. You can also set an output width to save the crop at a different size. The box works with a mouse, a finger or the keyboard, so it is usable without a pointer, and a small preview shows the finished result before you download it. Everything is measured in the pixels of your original picture, so the numbers you see are the numbers you get.

Domande frequenti

How do I crop with the keyboard?

Select the picture, then use the arrow keys to move the box one pixel at a time, or hold Shift for ten. Hold Alt with the arrow keys to change the width and height, and press plus or minus to make the box larger or smaller together.

How do I make a round crop for an avatar?

Tick the round crop option. The ratio switches to 1:1 so you get a true circle, and the corners outside it are transparent when you save as PNG or WebP. JPG cannot be see-through, so the corners take the background colour instead.

Can I crop to an exact size in pixels?

Yes. The Left, Top, Width and Height boxes show the position of the crop in your original picture and accept typed values. To change the size of the saved file, enter an output width and the height follows from the crop shape.

Does cropping reduce the quality of my picture?

No pixels inside the box are changed unless you ask for a different output width. With the output width left empty, the cropped area is saved at the original resolution. Saving as JPG or WebP at lower quality does compress, so use PNG for no loss.

Why does the box change when I pick a ratio?

A fixed ratio needs the box to have a matching shape, so it is adjusted around its centre to the largest size that fits inside the picture. You can then move it or drag a corner, and it will keep that ratio as you resize.
