Drawn signature on a contract

A drawn signature placed on the last page of a contract

The contract with the drawn signature on its last page, on a clear background so the page shows through.

The drawn signature keeps the shape of the strokes, so it looks like the original pen signature.

Typed signature in italic

The typed name Asha Patel placed on page 1

The name Asha Patel on page 1 in an italic serif lettering, which is built into PDF files.

Typed signatures use the built-in lettering, so every PDF viewer shows them the same way.

À propos de Sign a PDF

Signing a PDF no longer needs a printer and scanner. Choose your file, draw your signature with a mouse, finger or pen, or type your name in a handwriting style lettering, then say which page it belongs on and where. A small sketch of the page lets you click the spot, and nine position buttons and two sliders let you fine tune it. Pages stored turned sideways are handled too, so the signature appears the right way up, and the sketch of the page follows the size of the page you pick.

A drawn signature keeps your strokes on a clear background, so the text under it stays visible, and it is cropped to the ink and scaled to the width you choose. You can add it to a single page or to every page, which is handy for initialling a contract. This places an image of your signature on the page. It is not a certified digital signature, so check whether the person you are sending it to needs one. The file you chose is left as it was.

Questions fréquentes

How do I sign a PDF without printing it?

Choose the file, draw your signature in the box, pick the page and position, and select Add signature. The tool places an image of your signature on the page and gives you a new PDF to download, ready to email back without printing or scanning.

Can I type my signature instead of drawing it?

Yes. Choose Type it and enter your name. It is written in an italic serif lettering that is built into PDF files, so it looks the same everywhere. It is the nearest to handwriting that every viewer can show, and the text is capped at 48 points.

How do I choose where the signature goes?

Use the nine position buttons for a quick start, then adjust the sliders for across and down the page. You can also click on the page sketch to drop the signature at that spot. The signature is centred there and kept inside the edges of the page.

Is this a legally binding digital signature?

It adds a picture of your signature to the page, the same as signing a printed copy and scanning it. It is not a certified digital signature with a certificate behind it. Whether an image signature is enough depends on the document and who receives it, so check with them if unsure.

Can I sign more than one page?

Yes. Tick Add the signature to every page and it is placed in the same spot on all pages, which suits initials on a contract. To sign different pages in different places, sign one page, download the result and then run the tool again on that file.
