Sobre Screen DPI and PPI Calculator

This calculator works out how sharp a screen is. Enter the resolution in pixels and the diagonal size in inches and you get the pixels per inch, the dot pitch, the real width and height and the total number of pixels.

Higher pixel density means finer detail. Many desktop monitors sit between 90 and 110 pixels per inch and phones are often over 400. DPI is strictly a printer measure, but it is often used to mean the same thing as PPI for screens.

Como usar Screen DPI and PPI Calculator

  1. Enter the width and height of the screen in pixels.
  2. Enter the diagonal size in inches.
  3. Read the pixel density and the other figures.

Usos comuns

  • Comparing two monitors with different sizes and resolutions
  • Checking whether a laptop screen is sharp enough for your work
  • Working out the physical size of a design in pixels
  • Choosing a resolution for a given screen size

Perguntas frequentes

How is pixels per inch worked out?

The diagonal length in pixels, from the width and height, is divided by the diagonal length in inches.

What is a good pixel density?

Around 100 PPI is common for desktop monitors, 150 or more looks very sharp at desk distance, and phones at 400 or more look smooth at arm's length.

What is dot pitch?

The distance between the centres of two pixels in millimetres. A smaller dot pitch means a sharper screen.

Is DPI the same as PPI?

DPI counts dots a printer puts down, and PPI counts pixels on a screen. People often use DPI for both.
