Sobre Percentage Calculator

A percentage calculator answers the questions that come up in shopping, budgeting, studying and work. Find a percentage of a number, see what percentage one number is of another, measure the change between two values, apply an increase or decrease, or work backwards to find the original number. All five calculations sit on one page.

Answers update as you type, so you can try different figures quickly. Results are rounded to a maximum of six decimal places and shown with thousands separators. If an input would lead to dividing by zero, a short message explains what to change. Everything is laid out in separate cards, so each question is easy to find.

Perguntas frequentes

How do I calculate a percentage of a number?

Multiply the number by the percentage and divide by one hundred. For example, 15% of 200 is 200 times 15 divided by 100, which is 30. In the first card, enter 15 and 200 and the answer appears straight away.

How do I work out percentage change?

Subtract the old value from the new value, divide by the old value and multiply by one hundred. Going from 80 to 100 is a rise of 25%. Going from 100 back to 80 is a fall of 20%, because the starting point is different.

How do I add or take off a percentage?

To increase a number by a percentage, multiply it by one plus the percentage as a decimal, so adding 20% means multiplying by 1.2. To decrease it, multiply by one minus the percentage. The fourth card shows both results at once.

How do I find the original number?

If you know a number and the percentage it represents, divide the number by the percentage as a decimal. If 30 is 15% of a number, divide 30 by 0.15 to get 200. The last card does this for you and shows the result.

What is the difference between percent and percentage points?

Percentage points describe the simple gap between two percentages. A rate that moves from 10% to 12% has risen by two percentage points. In relative terms it has risen by 20%, because two is a fifth of ten. The change card gives the relative figure.
