Checking a domain expiry date

example-shop.co.uk typed into the domain box

Registrar: a named registrar company. Created: 2019-06-02. Expires: 2027-06-02. Name servers: ns1.example-host.net and ns2.example-host.net. Owner contact details are hidden.

This is an illustrative result: dates and servers come from the registry record, and owner details are normally not shown.

Spotting a domain close to expiry

old-brand.co.uk typed into the domain box

Expires: 2026-11-02, which is 18 days away from 15 October 2026.

Renew before the expiry date, because a domain that lapses can be lost, so set a reminder well in advance.

O narzędziu WHOIS Domain Lookup

A WHOIS lookup shows the public registration details of a domain name. Enter a domain and you can see which registrar looks after it, when it was first registered, when it expires, when the record last changed, its status codes and the name servers it uses. This helps when checking a renewal, a transfer or a suspicious name.

The details come from the registry that manages each domain ending, so they reflect the official record. Names, addresses and other contact details of the owner are normally hidden by registries to protect privacy, so they are not displayed here. If no record exists, the name may be available to register, or the ending may not publish records.

Najczęstsze pytania

What is a WHOIS lookup?

It is a search of the public registration record for a domain name. The record shows the registrar, key dates, status codes and name servers. It is the quickest way to see when a domain was registered and when it will expire.

Why can I not see the owner of the domain?

Registries and registrars normally hide personal contact details to protect the privacy of the people who register names. This tool shows only the registrar, dates, status and name servers, which are the parts that are published for everyone.

What do the status codes mean?

Status codes describe locks and conditions on the domain. Entries such as client transfer prohibited are a normal lock that helps stop unwanted moves. Others can show that a domain is in a renewal grace period or is on hold, which may need action by the owner.

What if no record is found?

The domain may not be registered, in which case it could be available. It is also possible that the registry for that ending does not publish records through this lookup. Check the spelling and the ending, and try again if you were not sure.

Can I look up a subdomain?

Enter the main domain name rather than a subdomain. If you type something like blog.example.com, the lookup tries the registrable name above it, so you will see the record for example.com. Registrations are held for the main domain, not for each subdomain.
