O narzędziu Leap Year Checker

A leap year is a year with 366 days instead of 365. The extra day is 29 February, which is added so that the calendar stays in step with the time the Earth takes to travel around the Sun. The rule is simple once you know it: a year is a leap year if it can be divided by 4, with one exception. Years that end in 00 are only leap years if they can be divided by 400. So 2024 and 2028 are leap years, 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was. Enter a year above to see whether it is a leap year, how many days February has and why.

Leap years matter for many practical jobs. Payroll systems, contract end dates, loan terms, birthdays on 29 February, and planning software that works out ages or durations all need to handle the extra day correctly. Najczęstsze pytania

What makes a year a leap year?

A year is a leap year if it is divisible by 4, except for years that end in 00. Those century years must also be divisible by 400 to count as leap years. For example, 2020 was a leap year because 2020 divided by 4 leaves no remainder. The year 1900 was not a leap year, but 2000 was, because 2000 divides exactly by 400.

Why do we have leap years?

The Earth takes roughly 365 days and a quarter to travel once around the Sun. A calendar of exactly 365 days would drift away from the seasons over time. Adding one extra day every four years keeps the calendar aligned with the seasons, and the century rule trims off a little extra so that the calendar stays accurate over long periods.

How many days are in a leap year?

A leap year has 366 days. The extra day is 29 February, so February has 29 days instead of 28. A common year has 365 days and February has 28 days. The calculator shows both figures when you enter a year, so you can check the length of February or the total days in the year at a glance.

When is the next leap year?

The next leap year after 2026 is 2028. After that, the leap years are 2032, 2036, 2040 and 2044. Enter any year in the first box and the list will start with the first leap year after it. Change the number in the second box to see up to fifty future leap years in one go, which helps with long term planning.

Is 2100 a leap year?

No, 2100 is not a leap year. Although 2100 can be divided by 4, it is a century year, and century years are only leap years when they can be divided by 400. Since 2100 leaves a remainder when divided by 400, it has 365 days. The next leap year after 2096 is therefore 2104, not 2100.
