You see your taxable income, your tax, your effective rate and the rate on your next dollar.

The 2026 standard deduction is $16,100 for single filers and married filing separately, $24,150 for head of household and $32,200 for married filing jointly. Veelgestelde vragen

What are the 2026 federal tax brackets for a single filer?

For 2026 the rates are 10% up to $12,400 of taxable income, 12% up to $50,400, 22% up to $105,700, 24% up to $201,775, 32% up to $256,225, 35% up to $640,600 and 37% above that. Only the income inside each range is taxed at that range's rate.

What is the standard deduction for 2026?

It is $16,100 for single filers and for married people filing separately, $24,150 for heads of household and $32,200 for married couples filing jointly or a surviving spouse. It reduces your income before the brackets are applied.

What is the difference between effective rate and marginal rate?

The effective rate is your total tax divided by your income, so it is an average across all brackets. The marginal rate is the rate on your next dollar of taxable income. Because tax is charged in slices, the effective rate is always lower than the top bracket you reach.

Does this include state tax or payroll tax?

No. This page covers federal income tax on ordinary income. Use the US paycheck calculator for Social Security, Medicare and state income tax, and the self-employment tax calculator if you work for yourself.
