Joined paragraphs

A 2 page PDF with a heading and two paragraphs on each page. Line breaks: join lines.

Chapter 2 follows in the same way. The hyphen at the end of a line is removed.

Keep each line, mark pages

The result is 2 pages, 88 words and 462 characters.

Over PDF to Text

PDF to Text reads the words stored in a PDF and shows them in a box you can edit, copy or download as a .txt file. You choose whether the lines of a paragraph are joined or kept exactly as they were, and whether each page is marked.

It reads real text only. A scanned PDF is a set of pictures, so nothing comes out and the tool tells you why. Text laid out in columns can come out in a different order from the way you would read it, so check the result.

Veelgestelde vragen

Why did I get no text?

A scanned PDF holds pictures of pages rather than text. The tool says so when it finds no text. To read words from a picture, use the Image to Text tool.

What does joining lines do?

Lines that belong to one paragraph are joined into a single line, and a word split by a hyphen at the end of a line is put back together. Choose Keep each line to leave the breaks as they were.

Are columns handled?

The text is read in the order it is stored, which is often down one column and then the next but not always. Check pages with several columns.

Is there a page limit?

The first 300 pages are read. If your document is longer, the tool tells you.
