Server response and page weight

https://example.com typed into the address box

(Illustrative) Server response 0.31 seconds, page weight 1.2 MB, and nine of the page files sampled for size and caching.

The figures come from one location, and the page is not drawn in a browser, so drawing times are not reported.

Images without caching

(Illustrative) Flagged: three image files sent without caching instructions, listed by file name.

Caching lets returning visitors reuse files, so setting it on static images is a common quick win.

Over Page Speed Analyser

A page speed analyser shows how quickly a website starts to respond and how much a visitor has to download before the page is usable. Enter a page address and Valtrinity measures the time until the first byte arrives, the size of the page, how many scripts, stylesheets, images and fonts it asks for, and how many other websites it relies on. The result is a grade out of one hundred with the biggest opportunities listed first. You can use the results to decide whether a slow page needs better hosting, caching, fewer scripts or lighter images, rather than guessing which one matters.

This tool measures the server response and the weight of the page from one location. It does not open the page in a browser, so it does not report drawing times or layout movement, and it cannot see files that scripts load later. Up to fifteen of the page's linked files are sampled for size and caching headers, and compression is estimated rather than confirmed. Each finding comes with the file or header behind it and a plain fix. Run the check on the pages visitors actually land on, and repeat it after each change, so you can see whether the grade and the first byte time move in the right direction.

Zo gebruikt u Page Speed Analyser

  1. Type the full address of the page you want to check.
  2. Select Analyse page and wait a few seconds.
  3. Read the grade and the list of opportunities, starting at the top.
  4. Open the sampled files table to see which scripts and images have weak caching.
  5. Make one or two changes, then run the check again to compare.

Veelgestelde vragen

What does time to first byte mean?

It is the time between asking for a page and receiving the first piece of the reply. A slow figure usually points to a server that builds each page from scratch, a busy host or slow database work. Here it also includes opening the connection from our server, so it reads a little higher than the server time alone.

Does this show how fast the page looks to a visitor?

No. It measures the server response and the weight of the page, not how it is drawn in a browser. Drawing time depends on scripts, fonts and images that load afterwards. Use this check to find server and page weight problems, and use your browser's developer tools to look at what a visitor sees.

Why can't it tell me whether compression is on?

To read the page, the check asks for the plain, uncompressed version. That means it cannot see what your server sends to browsers. It estimates how much smaller the page would be with gzip, and tells you how to confirm compression in your browser's network panel.

What is a render-blocking script?

It is a script in the head of the page that has neither async nor defer. The browser stops and downloads it before drawing anything below it. Adding defer to scripts that need the page, or async to independent ones, lets the page appear sooner without changing what the script does.

Why are some of my files marked as weakly cached?

Files such as images, scripts and stylesheets rarely change, so they should be kept by the browser for a long time. If a file has no cache time or a very short one, returning visitors download it again. A long cache time with a version in the file name is the usual fix.

Will the grade match other speed tools?

Not exactly. Other tools run the page in a browser and use different measures, so their scores will differ. This grade is built only from what can be measured on the server side: response time, page weight, blocking files, caching, redirects and the number of other hosts used.
