Over Date Difference Calculator
A date difference calculator tells you how long there is between two dates. Enter a start date and an end date and the gap appears in years, months and days, which reads more naturally than one large number. You will also see the total number of days and weeks, which is the measure many contracts, notice periods and deadlines use. The calculator works whichever date comes first, so you do not need to put them in order before you start.
Working days are shown as well, counting Monday to Friday. The start date is not counted and the end date is, so the figure matches how most people count the days from a request to the date it is due. Bank holidays for England and Wales are listed for 2026 and 2027, and a second working day figure takes those holidays off for those years. Check with your organisation if its own closure days are different, because a company shutdown or local closure can change the count.

Veelgestelde vragen
How do I count the days between two dates?
Subtract the earlier date from the later one. The result is the number of days between them, which is the figure this calculator shows as total days. For example, 1 March to 1 April is 31 days. Some people count the end date and some do not, so check whether a contract says the first or last day should be included before you rely on the number.
How many weeks are there between two dates?
Divide the total number of days by seven. The whole number is the number of full weeks, and any remainder is the extra days. For example, 45 days is six weeks and three days. The calculator shows both parts, so you can use whichever suits a plan, a schedule or a timescale written in weeks.
How are years, months and days worked out?
The calculator counts whole calendar months from the start date and then counts the days that remain. This means the length of each month is taken into account. From 15 January to 14 February is 30 days, because one whole month would end on 15 February, which is after the end date. From 31 January to 1 March is one month and one day, because the first month stops at 28 February.
What counts as a working day?
This calculator counts Monday to Friday as working days, so weekends are never included. The first working day figure counts every Monday to Friday, including bank holidays. The second figure takes off England and Wales bank holidays for 2026 and 2027. Many employers and organisations also close on other days, such as a Christmas shutdown, so check their own calendar when a timescale matters.
Why does the end date count but the start date does not?
Counting from the day after the start date to the end date matches most everyday uses. For example, the working days between a request made on a Monday and a reply due the following Monday is five. If you need the start day included as well, add one to the working days figure. Read any contract or policy to confirm which convention it uses.
