Campaign Link Builder

Add source, medium and campaign tags to a web address, or tag a whole list at once and download the results as a spreadsheet.

Ce contenu est en anglais.

The tags are added as utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content. A tag already on the address with the same name is replaced.

Several links at once

The list uses the tags above, so every address gets the same tags.

Exemples détaillés

Newsletter link for an autumn sale

Address https://example.co.uk/offer, source newsletter, medium email, campaign autumn-sale

https://example.co.uk/offer?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=autumn-sale

The tags tell your analytics tool that visits came from the newsletter, sent by email, as part of the autumn campaign.

Link that already has a query

Address https://example.co.uk/offer?ref=home, source social, medium post, campaign launch

https://example.co.uk/offer?ref=home&utm_source=social&utm_medium=post&utm_campaign=launch

Settings already on the address are kept, and the campaign tags are added to the end.

À propos de Campaign Link Builder

A UTM link builder adds campaign tags to the end of a web address. When someone clicks a link carrying these tags, your analytics tool can show where the visit came from, such as a newsletter, a social media post or an advert, and which campaign it belonged to. That makes it much easier to see which messages bring people to your website and which ones do not. This campaign link builder asks for the web address, the source, the medium and the campaign name, then gives you the finished link with a copy button, ready to paste into an email, a post or an advert.

Any settings already on the address are kept, so a link that already carries a reference code or other details keeps working as before. If a tag with the same name is already there, such as an old source, the new value takes its place. Lower case is switched on by default, so Newsletter and newsletter are less likely to be reported as two separate sources. You can also paste a list of addresses, apply the same tags to all of them and download the results as a spreadsheet file to keep a record.

  4. Copy the finished link and paste it wherever people will click it.
  5. For several links, paste one address per line, press Build links and download the CSV spreadsheet.

Questions fréquentes

What is a UTM link builder?

A UTM link builder adds tags to the end of a web address so that your analytics tool can show where a visit came from. The tags are named utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content. A tool like this saves you typing them by hand and reduces mistakes, such as one source appearing twice under two slightly different spellings.

What should I put in the source and medium?

The source is the place the link will appear, such as a newsletter, a partner website or a social network. The medium is the type of channel, such as email, social or banner. Pick one spelling for each and use it every time, so that your reports group the visits neatly. Many teams keep a short agreed list of names so that everyone tags links in the same way.

Will the link still work if the address already has other settings?

Yes. Any settings already on the address are kept exactly as they were, and the new tags are added after them. If a tag with the same name is already present, such as an old utm_source, the new value takes its place. If you leave the optional term or content box empty, any existing term or content tag on the address is left alone.

Why does the tool use lower case for my tags?

Analytics tools can treat Spring and spring as two different names, which splits your figures across two rows. Lower case is ticked by default so that the tags are stored in one consistent form. You can untick the box if you need capital letters, but keep the spelling the same across all of your links so that your reports stay tidy.

Can I tag a list of links at once?

Yes. Paste one web address per line into the list box, up to 200 at a time, and press Build links. Every address receives the same source, medium, campaign name and any optional tags. A line that is not a valid web address is marked as not built, while the rest are still produced. Download the results as a CSV spreadsheet file to keep a record of each tagged link.
