Halving a landscape photo

A 1200 by 800 pixel photo with a width of 600 and keep aspect ratio on

A 600 by 400 pixel image.

With keep aspect ratio on, the height changes in proportion to the width, so the picture is not squashed.

Square picture for a profile

A 1200 by 800 pixel photo with keep aspect ratio off, set to 1080 by 1080

A 1080 by 1080 pixel image.

With the option off, both numbers are used exactly, so the picture may be stretched if the shape changes.

À propos de Image Resizer

Resizing an image means changing how many pixels wide and tall it is. This tool lets you type an exact width and height, or scale by a percentage, while keeping the proportions so nothing looks stretched. It is handy when an upload form asks for a particular size, when an email attachment is too large, or when a web page loads slowly because the picture is far bigger than it needs to be. Everything updates as you type, so you can adjust the numbers until the preview and file size look right before saving anything.

There are ready-made sizes for popular social media spots, including square and portrait posts, stories, banners and video thumbnails. If your picture has a different shape, you can stretch it, crop it to fill the space or fit it inside with a border. Choose PNG, JPG or WebP, set the quality, check the new file size under the preview and then download the result. The original picture is never changed, so you can try several sizes and download each one separately.

Questions fréquentes

Will resizing make my picture look blurry?

Making a picture smaller keeps it sharp because the tool shrinks it in several gentle steps. Making it larger cannot create detail that was never there, so enlarged pictures look softer. Try to start from the biggest version of the picture you have.

What does keep aspect ratio do?

It links the width and height so the picture keeps its original shape. When you type a new width, the height is worked out for you, and the other way round. Switch it off if you want to set both numbers yourself and accept some stretching.

How do I make a picture fit a social media size exactly?

Choose the preset that matches where you will post. The width and height are filled in and the tool crops the edges evenly to fill the space. If you would rather keep the whole picture, change the shape setting to fit inside with empty space.

Which format should I save as?

Use JPG or WebP for photos, because they give small files. Use PNG for logos, screenshots and graphics with sharp lines or transparency. WebP is usually the smallest, though a few older programs cannot open it, in which case choose JPG.

Is there a limit on picture size?

Very large pictures, above about 100 megapixels, or sides longer than 16,384 pixels, are refused with a clear message because they can use more memory than a device has. If you hit the limit, use a smaller version of the original and try again.
