Work you have been marked on, or still expect
Weights are each piece's share of the whole course, so they should add up to 100 with the final exam included. Leave the score blank for work that has not been marked yet.
Exemples détaillés
Grade with one piece unmarked
Essay 60% at weight 20%, test 75% at weight 30%, and exam not yet marked at weight 50%
Current grade 69%, based on the 50% of the course that has been marked.
The unmarked exam is left out, so the grade is (60 × 20 + 75 × 30) divided by the 50 per cent marked so far.
Grade once everything is marked
Essay 60% at weight 20%, test 75% at weight 30%, and exam 80% at weight 50%
Current grade 74.5%, based on 100% of the course.
Once every piece is marked the weights add up to 100, so the answer is the weighted average of all three scores.
À propos de Grade Calculator
Most courses combine several pieces of assessment into one final grade. Coursework, tests, projects and the final exam each carry a weight, which is the share of the total mark they contribute. Knowing your grade so far is useful, but the question students usually ask is more practical: what do I need on the exam to reach the grade I am aiming for? This calculator answers that directly. It multiplies each score by its weight, adds the results together, and then works out the average you need across the work still to come. You can add or remove assessments as the course moves on.
Weights are easy to get wrong, so it is worth checking the numbers before you rely on them. All the weights for a course, including the final exam, should add up to 100%. If yours do not, the calculator tells you, because the answer would otherwise be misleading. Work you have not been marked on yet can be included with its weight and a blank score, and the result then shows the average needed across the final and that remaining work. If your target has already been secured you will see that too, and if it cannot be reached at all you will see the highest grade still possible.

Questions fréquentes
How do I work out my grade so far?
Multiply each mark by its weight, add those results together, and divide by the total weight of the work that has been marked. Work that has not been marked is left out of that figure. For example, a 70 with a weight of 20 and an 80 with a weight of 20 give 1,400 plus 1,600, which is 3,000, divided by 40, so the grade so far is 75%.
What if my weights do not add up to 100?
The calculator still works out an answer, but it shows a warning because the result may be wrong. Your course outline should list the weight of every assessment, and the total should come to 100 including the final exam. If a piece of work is missing from your list, add it with its weight so that the sum is correct before you rely on the answer.
Why does the calculator say my target has already been reached?
The target counts as reached when your points so far already equal or beat it, so no score on the remaining work can take your grade below it. This happens when your current marks are high enough to carry the grade on their own. You can still improve your overall result by doing well on the rest of the course, and the calculator will keep showing the target as reached.
Can I use weights other than the usual 50% for the final?
Yes. The final exam weight and every assessment weight are entered as percentages, so any split works as long as the total comes to 100. A final exam worth 30% is entered as 30 in the final exam box, and the calculator adjusts the score you need to match. Check the weights in your course outline before you start, because they change from one course to another.
Is the score needed the same as the grade I will get?
The score needed is the average you must achieve across the work still to come in order to reach your target. Your final grade combines every mark, so the figure is an exact calculation based on the weights you entered. Your course may also use its own rules, such as passing thresholds or a requirement to pass each part separately, so check those as well.
