À propos de Compress PDF

Compress PDF makes a PDF file smaller so it fits an email limit or an upload form. It finds the photos stored as JPEG, reduces their size and quality by the level you choose, and saves the whole file again in a more compact layout.

You always see the size before and after. If the file is mostly text, or already compact, the tool tells you it could not be made smaller and does not offer a file that is no better than your original.

Questions fréquentes

Why did my PDF not get smaller?

Most of the size of a PDF is usually its pictures. If the file holds mainly text, or its pictures are stored in a way this tool leaves alone, there is little to save. The tool then says so and your original is the best version to use.

Will the text still be sharp?

Yes. Text, links and page layout are not changed. Only pictures stored as JPEG are reduced, so the loss of detail is limited to photographs.

Which level should I choose?

Balanced suits most files. Light keeps photographs sharp and saves less. Strong gives the smallest file and the photographs look softer, so check them before you send the file.

Can it compress a locked PDF?

No. A PDF that asks for a password cannot be read until it is unlocked. If you know the password, use the Unlock PDF tool first.
