Über UK Postcode Validator

This validator checks that UK postcodes follow the format rules. Paste a list with one postcode per line, in any case and with or without the space, and each is checked, tidied and described.

A postcode has an outward code, such as SW1A, and an inward code, such as 1AA. The tool applies the rules about which letters can appear in each position and shows the area, outward code and inward code. It checks the format only, so a postcode that passes may not be in use.

So verwenden Sie UK Postcode Validator

  1. Paste your postcodes, one per line.
  2. Read the result for each one.
  3. Correct any marked as not valid, then copy the tidy list.

Typische Einsatzzwecke

  • Cleaning a customer list before a mail merge
  • Catching mistakes in a form export
  • Putting postcodes into the standard layout
  • Splitting postcodes into area and district for sorting

Häufige Fragen

Does a valid result mean the postcode exists?

No. It means the postcode is written in a form that is allowed. New and retired postcodes change over time, so use an address lookup to confirm that an address exists.

Does the space matter?

No. Lower case and missing spaces are accepted. The result is shown in capitals with one space before the final three characters.

What are the outward and inward codes?

The outward code is the first part, such as SW1A, which gets the post to the right area and district. The inward code is the last three characters, such as 1AA, which finds the delivery point.

Is GIR 0AA accepted?

Yes. It is a special postcode that follows its own pattern and is accepted.
