Viewing a small score sheet

name, score on the first line, then Asha,9 and Ben,10

A table with two rows: Asha 9, then Ben 10, with the score column sorted as numbers.

Columns that hold only numbers sort as numbers, so 9 comes before 10.

Reversing a column sort

The same table with the score heading selected twice

A table with two rows: Ben 10, then Asha 9.

Selecting a heading sorts the table, and selecting it again reverses the order.

Über CSV Viewer

A CSV file is easy to create but awkward to read as plain text, especially when fields contain commas, quotes or line breaks. This viewer turns pasted CSV or a dropped file into a table with a header row, numbered rows and columns that line up. The separator is detected automatically, so comma, semicolon, tab and pipe files all open correctly, and you can set it by hand if a file is unusual. Nothing needs to be installed, and the table is ready as soon as the text is in place.

Select a column heading to sort it, once for ascending, again for descending and a third time to return to the original order. Columns that hold only numbers sort as numbers, while others sort as text with natural ordering. A search box filters the rows, optionally on one column, and a statistics panel summarises any column: counts, empty cells, different values, smallest, largest, sum, average and median for numbers, and the most common values for text. Files up to 50,000 rows are shown a page at a time.

Häufige Fragen

How do I open a CSV file as a table?

Drag the file onto the drop area, choose it with the button, or paste the text into the box. The table appears at once with the separator detected for you. Select a column heading to sort and use the filter box to find rows.

Which separators are supported?

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe. By default the viewer looks at the first rows and picks the separator that gives the most consistent number of columns. If it guesses wrong, choose the correct one from the Separator menu and the table redraws straight away.

How many rows can it handle?

Up to 50,000 rows are loaded and shown a page at a time, with 50, 100, 250 or 500 rows per page. If your file has more, a message says that only the first 50,000 rows are shown. Sorting, filtering and statistics work on the loaded rows.

How does sorting work?

Columns containing only numbers sort by value, so 9 comes before 10. Other columns sort as text, with numbers inside text in natural order and empty cells always last. Select the heading again to reverse the order, and a third time to restore the original order.

Are quoted fields handled?

Yes. A field wrapped in quotation marks can contain separators, line breaks and doubled quotation marks, and these are shown correctly. If a row has fewer fields than the others, it is padded with empty cells and a note tells you how many rows were affected.
